July in Maine

Bob and Kathryn Seelye invite you to DOWNEAST, Maine!

We have enjoyed vacationing and training in July in the coolness of Maine. We would like to share that wonderful experience with existing clients and newcomers who would like to escape the sweltering summer elsewhere. This training camp is an ideal way to introduce YOUNG DOGS to birds, the right way! The camp program will also give you a chance to use the summertime to tune up for fall, whether it is for hunt tests, field trials, or hunting with your bird dog.

Our program can accommodate all levels of interest, from very beginning to polishing the mature bird dog. It is specifically designed to train YOU, the handler and help you be a more successful team with your dog.

LEARN TO HANDLE LIKE A PRO!

Our camp is located just outside the town of Eastport, Maine, the eastern most town in the United States!

The cold water of the Bay of Fundy and the North Atlantic keeps the air temperature perfect for dog training all summer long. Last summer when it was 110 degrees in Maryland and many other places it was in the low 60’s in Eastport. Bob will be hosting training seminars AM & PM Monday thru Friday the whole month of July.

You can come up for one week, two weeks or the whole month if you like.

The Program

The format for the training seminars will be:

  • 8:00AM until 9:00 AM discussion regarding the proper development of your young bird dog. From personal hunting dog to national caliber field trial prospect, you will learn how to develop your prospect.
  • 9:00 AM to 11:30AM will be field training on birds. Bob likes to work the young dogs together allowing them to watch each other to build desire.
  • 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM. LUNCH BREAK
  • 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM Training for adult dogs will begin with discussion and demonstrations followed by field training. Adult dog session will include all aspects of gun dog training. From your pup’s first bird to polish on your finished gun dog we will cover it all.

For those who don’t camp or have a camper you can fly into Bangor, ME (Eastport has a regional airport for small planes and jets and rent a car or RV (Travelocity / Priceline). Airfares are reasonable from most areas. Eastport is about 2 hours drive from Bangor. Renting an RV will probably be more expensive than a motel but it will offer you flexibility in seeing the area.

Washington County, Maine, is a beautiful area full of wonderful natural resources. Bordering on the Bay of Fundy, home of the largest tide in the world, at 20+ feet, Washington County is the place the sun hits in the US first each day. Twice a day the largest clam flats in the world are exposed for harvest. Lobsters are plentiful and whales and seals are seen regularly.

In addition to the costal attractions Washington County is home to Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge. Moosehorn is home to some of New England’s finest wild bird field trials. There are plenty of grouse and woodcock. Campabello Island and Canada are easily accessible. Fishing, both salt and fresh water is top notch.

We are sure that you will find July in Maine a relaxing and productive experience. Having worked well over 1,000 dogs in his career there is little Bob has not seen before. Bob is committed to helping dog owners become better handlers. Bob and Kathryn are committed to showing you all a great time with great food in Downeast Maine.

And remember if you can’t make “July in Maine” there are week long opportunities to train with Bob at the farm in Maryland the rest of the year (Dog Training Vacation in Maryland).
