Munhall Seelye
In addition to her role as mother to young Heather Seelye, Kathryn
is involved in every aspect of Cliffside Bird Dogs, as well as Strawberry
Hill Farm Shooting Preserve. She has bred very successful litters
of vizslas, cared for and assisted in training dogs and horses and
according to husband Bob, “Is the best scout in the field
trial business!”
“I
assisted the whelping of my first litter of puppies when I was 5
years old, as my mother was too squeamish to touch them! My
love for animals and nature has been increasing ever since.
| "When
I was 14, I began working at Russell Animal Hospital in Concord,
New Hampshire. It was a small animal, AAHA, practice with
room to house 60 dogs and 20 cats. I worked on weekends
and holidays through the school year and during summer break.
There I learned what animal care is all about. As the
years progressed, I attended college and earned a bachelor's
degree in Biology, then began full time work as a Veterinary
Technician. By the time I resigned after fourteen years,
I was assisting in surgery, performing the dental cleanings,
completing the lab work, and helping with the reception (not
at the same time!). Wonderful experience to prepare me
for working with bird dogs! |

"I
decided in 1991 that I wanted to hunt birds. For me, that
meant I needed a bird dog. At that time, I had two Great Pyrenees.
They were wonderful pets and obedience dogs, but hardly bird finders!
After much research, I decided on a Vizsla, as I would be hunting
the native grouse and woodcock in northern New England. One
of our clients at the animal hospital was a Vizsla breeder.
She made me an offer that I couldn't refuse: train her bitch
for her CD obedience title, get the title, and she would let me
have the pick of the litter when the bitch was bred! I was
also able to hunt over her that fall. I finished her in three
months and excitedly waited for the puppies. I chose Victor
when he was 2 weeks old. He became DC/AFC Sienna Gold Tidal
Victory SH! I have many great hunting stories of our times
together to share!”
